Responsibilities

The Marine Systems Engineer (SDM Engineer) will be responsible for the following:

  1. Perform HM&E Systems engineering, design, and technical support to the DDG 51 Surface Combatant Shipbuilding Program.
  2. Review work items for technical accuracy, develop technical solutions to hull unique and Class issues, and prepare engineering scope packages for shipyard installation and repair jobs.
  3. Review design drawings, RNs, ship specifications, CDRLs, and verify that equipment installations and drawings are in accordance with contract requirements.
  4. Perform technical assessments, evaluate, and advise the government on equipment and system problems associated with repair availability tests and trials.
  5. Analyze and incorporate lessons learned from ship construction experience and previous availability installations into future work items.
  6. Provide on-site support at the executing shipyard assisting with the resolution of emergent engineering issues for the duration of the Post Shakedown Availability (PSA).

Qualifications & Clearance Requirements 

Education, Work Experience, Skills, and Clearance Requirements:  

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an applicable discipline and a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience OR a high school diploma or equivalent and additional years' experience in lieu of degree.
  2. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Ability to work in an industrial environment.
  4. Active Secret security clearance verifiable in JPAS.

Preferred:  

         Marine Engineering degree.
